I have chose to blog about Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (MTB), because this is a pathogenic bacteria that causes most cases of tuberculosis (TB). As a nursing student I would be required to get a TB test done regurlarly, for the reason that today one third of the world population maybe infected, and new infection occur at a high rate. This infection has a really high transmission rate sense is transmitted through out the air. Someone with untreated TB can infect 10-15 people per year only by coughing. Everyone working in the medical field have a higher rate to become infected.
TB is diagnosed by identifying the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis with a non-immunized person by a tuberculin test, that yields a delayed hypersensitivity type response to an extract made from m.tuberculosis. Knowing that there is approaches for prevention and control of TB. People diagnosed with TB are identified and tested, and children are vaccinated to protect them from TB.
